This clock utility worked fairly well, though we encountered functionality issues on a Windows 2000 system.

As you’d probably guess, the program adds a skinnable digital clock and a calendar to your desktop and lets you schedule system shutdown. Easily customize your clock’s and calendar’s appearance using the skin creator. It comes preloaded with several skins, and you can download more from the publisher’s Web site at no extra cost.

A useful timer lets you schedule system shutdown once, daily, or at a user-specified interval. A 30-second warning allows users to save any opened file or process or to cancel the shutdown.

Alas, the 30-second period is preset to the program with no option to adjust it. We found Desktop Clock 4 ran flawlessly on Windows XP, but we encountered spotty performance with Windows 2000. The program is available in several different languages. Overall, Desktop Clock 4 is easy enough for any skill level, but advanced users may opt to look for more competent clock utility.
