This application manages access to Windows components as well as online elements, though some restrictions are ineffective. Access Manager has a user-friendly, multipaned interface reminiscent of Microsoft Outlook. You can quickly make broad restrictions to the entire system to require password entry upon login, remove programs from the Add/Remove programs list, disable browser extensions, and more. Specific restrictions by user name are easily configurable to block downloading, program access, and network settings, just to name a few. The program’s handy Screen Lock function quickly locks and password protects your system. After applying changes, however, Access Manager informed us that some settings won’t work due to version discrepancies and such. With that in mind, some of our test settings worked, some didn’t. We were also told that a system reboot is necessary to apply changes, which wasn’t always the case either. Though we aren’t too thrilled with what we think are some misrepresentations, this software provides sufficient system management for parents and administrators.
